TARTARUGA

THE STORY OF A TRUCK
WITH A HOUSE ON ITS BACK

ever easy to say where a journey begins, especially one that encompasses a story as long and complicated as this, and with no defined endpoint. The roots of a journey such as the tartaruga are deep within the long forgotten memories of journeys copmpleted, the trials and tribulations of Africa travel, a man warms a glass of milk, in the fire, a guest gets so scared she faints alongside the road, my daughter asked to fetch a tow rope from the truck, asks if she should swim down the left side of the vehicle, or climb over the mound on the right. After half a day of battling with a landcruiser in the mud in the middle of Zambia, it finally comes out with tandem pulling from three other vehicles. Stuck in a cassava patch, buried in a Namibian pan in the mud in a policevan, running a diesel on cooking oil when the fuel runs out. These are the collective experiences that shaped our journey from a chassis cab 4x4 acquisition to the building of a luxury automated offroad home on wheels and the places it takes us to.

So here we will tell the story of how we designed it, how we built it and what we did to make it better, and above all, where we went and how we got there. This is the story of our tartaruga, a slow but sure footed truck, with a home on its back.
